Vestavia Hills City Schools has been notified that the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) has ordered this year’s home football game versus Hoover to be played on Friday, October 9, rather than Thursday, October 8, as originally scheduled by our athletic department. This change is a direct result of the AHSAA’s order and was not Vestavia Hills City Schools’ choice.
As the host for this year’s matchup, Vestavia Hills scheduled the game for Thursday, October 8, specifically because our students will be out of school Friday, October 9 for fall break. Hoover informed us during this process that they preferred to play on Friday. While the District 5 Board voted unanimously in favor of our position, yesterday, the AHSAA ordered that the game be moved to Friday, October 9.
Because the game now falls on a student holiday, this change creates real disruption for our families, student body, football team, band, cheerleaders and staff — many of whom made travel and personal plans around our school calendar after it was first published in April 2025. We do not take this lightly and are deeply sorry that we are unable to play on October 8 as originally planned.
We remain committed to providing a first-class experience for our students, staff, and fans on October 9, and we thank you in advance for your flexibility as we adjust our plans to comply with the AHSAA’s order.
