Dear VHCS family,
The safety of our students is always our highest priority. As the new school year begins, we want to remind families that students who travel to and from school using bicycles, e-bikes, scooters, or other micromobility devices are expected to do so in accordance with all applicable state laws and City of Vestavia Hills ordinances.
Vestavia Hills City Schools will follow those laws when determining which micromobility devices may be brought onto and parked on school campuses. Devices that are not legal for a student to operate or possess under Alabama law or City ordinance will not be permitted on campus.
We recognize that many students rely on various forms of transportation to get to school, and we appreciate your partnership in helping ensure that students arrive safely. We encourage parents to become familiar with the laws governing these devices — including licensing requirements, age restrictions, helmet requirements, and where different types of devices may legally be operated — before allowing a child to ride one to school. Our goal is to promote safe, lawful travel and to help protect all students, pedestrians and motorists in our community.
