Being present at school is one of the most important ways to stay on track academically and connected to our school community. If you are absent, you have three days upon returning to school to submit documentation for the absence to be excused. After that window, the absence will remain unexcused and cannot be changed.

You also have five days after returning to complete and turn in any work missed during your absence. It is your responsibility to follow up with your teachers and stay current.

Please remember: Students are allowed only ten total absences that can be excused by a parent note or principal pre-approval. After ten, a doctor’s excuse is required for any additional absences to be excused.

Show up, stay engaged, and take ownership of your time—it makes all the difference.

    Check-Out Procedure

Students may be checked out in person by a parent, guardian, or PowerSchool-approved contact. For planned check-outs or late arrivals, we encourage families to handle the process in advance.

If a check-out occurs during a class transition, no additional steps are needed. If the check-out is during class time, students should bring a note from a parent stating the check-out time to show the teacher at the beginning of class. This helps us minimize instructional interruptions.

Whenever possible, please plan check-outs around class changes to support a smooth and respectful learning environment.

In case of illness, students may see the Nurse who evaluation check-out needs.

  • If this is an emergency, please call 911.

You may use the Safe School Helpline to report school safety concerns to VHCS administrators and school resource officers. The Helpline is monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by Safe School Helpline staff.
